**Tokyo Pop jumper *knitting pattern*

 Meet the Tokyo Pop jumper a raglan jumper, with iconic barrel sleeves, inspired by the famous Tokyo Pop suit worn by David Bowie ! 

It has 3/3 details at the waistband and the wrist, and a continuous high chimney neck.
It has barrel sleeves, with a lot of volume on the outside of the arm.

Their shape draws inspiration from Japanese curves and the Tokyo Pop suit created by designer Kansai Yamamoto for David Bowie’s 1973 Ziggy Stardust tour.

To obtain this amazing structure, and make sure it lasts in time, the jumper is knitted flat from the bottom up. This means you will knit four different pieces flat : one for the front, one for the back and one for each sleeve, before attaching them with a mattress stitch. 

The collar part is directly shaped in each of the four pieces.

Size guide

The Tokyo Pop jumper is oversized and designed to have a lot of positive ease : 
· For sizes XS to XL, the jumper is supposed to have an average positive ease of ≈ 28-30 cm [11-11¾ inches].
· For sizes 2XL and 3XL, the jumper is supposed to have an average positive ease of ≈ 20-25 cm [8-10 inches].
· For size 4XL, the jumper is supposed to have an average positive ease of  ≈ 15-20 cm [6-8 inches].

Sizes : (XS) S (M) L (XL) 2XL (3XL) 4XL designed to fit a bust circumference of (76-80) 84-88 (92-96) 100-104 (110-116) 122-128 (134-140) 146-152 cm [(30-31½) 33-34¾ (36¼- 37¾) 39¼-41 (43¼- 45¾) 48-50½ (52¾-55) 57½- 60 inches].

// The pattern has been written for sizes XS to 4XL, covering bust circumferences from 76 to 60 cm [30 to 60 inches]. However it has not been yet tested for sizes 2XL to 4XL. If you wish to knit one of theses sizes - and test it ! -, please contact me before buying the pattern. \\

Measurements finished :
· Circumference : (107) 116 (122) 130 (139) 146 (154) 162 cm [(42¼) 45¾ (48) 51¼ (54¾) 57½ (60½) 63¾ inches].
· Wide : (53,5) 58 (61) 65 (69,5) 73 (77) 81 cm [(21) 22¾ (24) 25½ (27¼) 28¾ (30¼) 32 inches] measured across the chest (at the arm pits) when laying flat.
· Length : (51,3) 52,2 (53,4) 54,4 (55,2) 56,2 (57,6) 58,8 cm [(20¼) 20½ (21) 21½ (21¾) 22¼ (22¾) 23 ¼ inches] measured from the bottom edge to the foot of the collar, at centerback.
· Arm : (23) 23,5 (24) 25,5 (26,7) 28,6 (30) 32 cm [(9) 9¼ (9½) 10 (10½) 11¼ (11¾) 12½ inches] measured at the widest points (at the arm pits) when laying flat.

The measurements for the finished jumper are listed above. Measure yourself before beginning your project to determine which size will fit you the best.  If you are between two sizes, choose the one that gives you the ease that you desire.

For example, if you measure 89 cm [35 inches] around your bust (or around the widest part of your upper body) you should knit a size S. A jumper in size S has a bust circumference of 116 cm [45½ inches] which in the given example would give you 27 cm [10½  inches] of positive ease.

I have a 87  cm [34¼ inches] bust and wear a size S.

Gauge : 15,5 sts x 25 rows (10 x 10 cm) [4 x 4 inches] in stockinette on needle size 5 mm [US 8] or the size required to meet the gauge.
Row gauge does matter, so make sure you are close to it.

Needles : Circular 4,5 & 5 mm [US 7 & 8].

Level : Advanced begginer.

Yarn

Yarn metrage : (1000) 1100 (1175) 1250 (1350) 1425 (1525) 1600 m [(1100)  1200 (1300) 1375 (1475) 1575 (1675) 1750 yards] of aran yarn weight.

You can use different combos, giving you different drapes, but they all are lovely and work for the pattern : 
· Aran weight yarn : thick with a bit of drape.
· Worsted weight yarn + lace mohair : thick with a bit of drape and fluff.
· Aran weight yarn + lace mohair : a bit thicker, enhancing the structure, with fluff.

For the dark grey version I used a thread of aran vintage yarn + a thread of grey blue mohair.
The light grey jumper is in Madara (Noro), the yellow-green in Vams (Rauma), the purple in Manchelopi (Wooldreamers) and the red in 1800 (Fonty)+ Kid cotton mohair (Kremke).

Voici le Tokyo Pop jumper, un pull raglan avec des manches incurvées iconiques, inspirées par la célèbre combinaison Tokyo Pop portée par David Bowie !

Il a des détails en côtes 3/3 à la taille et aux poignets. Le haut col cheminée vient dans la continuité du reste du pull. Ses manches sont des manches « barrel » (littéralement « tonneau ») incurvées, avec beaucoup de volume sur l’extérieur du bras.

Leur forme tire son inspiration des courbes japonaises et de la combinaison Tokyo Pop créée par le designer Kansai Yamamoto pour la tournée de David Bowie/Ziggy Stardust en 1973.

Pour obtenir cette structure si spécifique, et durable dans le temps, le pull est tricoté à plat de bas en haut. Vous tricoterez les quatre différents morceaux séparément : un morceau pour le devant, un pour le dos, un pour chaque manche, avant de les assembler avec une couture invisible.

Le col est directement tricoté en haut de chacune des quatre parties.

Les mesures finales du pull terminé sont présentées ci-dessus. Mesurez-vous avant de commencer le projet pour déterminer la taille qui vous conviendra le mieux. Si vous hésitez entre deux tailles, choisissez celle qui vous donne l’aisance de votre choix.

Par exemple, si votre tour de poitrine (ou bien l’endroit le plus large de votre buste) est de 89 cm [35 inches], vous devriez tricoter une taille S.  Un pull en taille S a une circonférence finale de 116 cm [45½ inches],  qui, dans le présent exemple, donnera une aisance positive de 27 cm [10½  inches].

J’ai un tour de poitrine de 87  cm [34 ¼ inches] et je porte une taille S.

Échantillon : 15,5 mailles  x 25 rangs (10 x 10 cm) [4 x 4 inches] en jersey sur des aiguilles 5 mm [US 8] ou la taille nécessaire pour obtenir l’échantillon.
L’échantillon de rangs compte, faites donc attention à vous en approcher autant que possible.

Aiguilles : Circulaires 4,5 & 5 mm [US 7 & 8].

Niveau :  Débutant avancé.

Laine

Métrage : (1000) 1100 (1175) 1250 (1350) 1425 (1525) 1600 m [(1100)  1200 (1300) 1375 (1475) 1575 (1675) 1750 yards] de laine aran.

Vous pouvez utiliser différentes combinaisons de laines, qui vous donneront différents drapés, tous aussi beaux et qui fonctionnent pour ce patron :
· Un fil aran : dense avec un peu de drapé.
· Un fil worsted + un fil de lace mohair : dense, avec un peu de drapé et le côté vaporeux du mohair.
· Un fil aran + un fil de lace mohair : plus dense, accentuant la structure, mais toujours avec le côté vaporeux du mohair.

Pour la version grise foncée j’ai utilisé un brin de laine aran vintage tenu avec un brin de mohair.
Le pull gris clair est en Madara (Noro), le pull vert-jaune en Vams (Rauma), le pull violet en Manchelopi (Wooldreamers) et le pull rouge en 1800 (Fonty)+ Kid cotton mohair (Kremke).
